Advanced Diploma Course 1

This course, ‘From Early Child Development to Human Development: Integrating Perspectives’ introduces participants to the biological and social determinants of human development. It examines patterns of neurological, social-emotional, physical, intellectual and behavioural early development within the context of family, community, culture, religion, gender, politics and economics in rural and urban settings. Local and Western theories of human development and research from diverse disciplinary perspectives are considered. Participants will assess their relevance to an understanding of child development in their own regional context. The course will examine the primary arguments for investing in early child development. Participants will be briefly introduced to different research methods used in studies of early child development; these skills will further develop in Course II and III.
