Science Education II

The aim of this course is to enable science teachers and educators to develop a deeper understanding of the goals, purposes, nature and practices of science in a developing context. It also aims to develop a deeper understanding of how children learn science and enhance their own understanding of the big ideas in science. In addition, it aims to address broader concepts and influences on the science curriculum. It also aims to introduce teachers to the role context, culture and globalization plays in thinking about science and the contemporary issues and trends in the teaching, learning, curriculum and assessment of science.

During the course CPs will engage in curriculum analysis in light of the contemporary trends and issues and their own contextual realities. They would enhance and enrich content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge in selected science concepts from Classes VI-X. (Pakistan National Curriculum or equivalent); through classroom practice, interactions, self/collaborative inquiry, and reflections.

Moreover, the course also aims to develop participants understanding about teacher development, and leadership, which are related to the broader roles and responsibilities of a science teacher and educator. For more information, please contact Ms. Unaeza Alvi <unaeza.alvi@aku.edu>.
