Moodle Wiki GuideWikis in MoodleA wiki is a collection of collaboratively authored web documents. Basically, a wiki page is a web page everyone on your course website can create together. Wikis get their name from the Hawaiian term "wiki wiki," which means "very fast." A wiki is indeed a fast method for creating content as a group. It's a hugely popular format on the Web for creating documents as a group. There is usually no central editor of a wiki, no single person who has final editorial control. Instead, the community edits and develops its own content. Consensus views emerge from the work of many people on a document. In Moodle, wikis can be a powerful tool for collaborative work. All members of your course website can edit a document together, creating a product, or each student can have their own wiki and work on it with you and their classmates.
Starting off with your wikiClick on the wiki where you wish to add content. All wiki links are preceded by this icon
If you happen to be the first person to add content to the wiki you will see the screen as below. Start typing your content. Use the ‘Enlarge Editor’ Click on ‘Preview’ to see what your contribution to the wiki will look like or click on ‘Save’ if you are done with writing your content.
Once you click save, you will be thanked for your contribution on the view page. Click on ‘Reload this page’ to view refreshed/new content that is added to the page by you or other members of your course website.
Editing a WikiClick on ‘Edit’ to make changes to existing content in a wiki. You will be directed to the Edit page where you can make changes to the existing content in the wiki. Click on ‘Preview’ to see what your edits look like or Click on ‘Save’ if you are done with making your edits.
Note that the changes have been incorporated in the wiki in the ‘View’ section.
Using the History PageThe history page allows you to see the different versions of the Wiki edited by you and your colleagues. Click on the ‘History’ tab. You will be taken to the page where you will see various versions of the wiki. Click on ‘Browse’ to view a particular version of a Wiki. Click on ‘Fetch-back’ to view a particular version of a wiki and edit it. Click on ‘Diff’ if you want to compare changes that have been made to the Wiki from one version to the other.
When you click Fetch-back for any version of the wiki, the editing page comes on your screen. You can make your edits here and click on ‘Save’.
When you click on ‘Diff’, you will be taken to a page where you will see differences between different versions of the wiki. The + sign indicates text that has been added to that particular version of the Wiki and the – sign indicates text that has been deleted from that particular version of the Wiki.
